Gretna Hall a Coaching Inn during the mid 1800s

Gretna Hall

Gretna Hall, leased by John Linton as a Coaching Inn during the mid 1800's witnessed some of the historic weddings.

Gretna Hall Hotel

As a modern day venue, weddings take place in a replica of a blacksmiths shop which was created in 1939 within converted outbuildings of Gretna Hall. Blacksmiths Shop weddings were the most popular in Gretna Green, due to the fame of the World Famous Blacksmiths Shop. The proprietors of Gretna Hall undoubtedly saw this popularity and decided to create a replica of a blacksmiths shop to increase their wedding income. A year later the Anvil weddings were outlawed but the replica continued to be visited, as did the World Famous Blacksmiths Shop, by couples seeking a blessing over the Anvil, following a registrars wedding.
