The Old Toll Bar
The Old Toll Bar, Scotland's first and last house became a marriage venue in 1830 following the building of the bridge over the river Sark, by-passing Gretna Green.
Known as Allison's Bank Toll, the toll keeper, Mr Murray intercepted couples running away to marry at the World Famous Blacksmiths Shop in Gretna Green. He became a very rich man and with his fortune built the Gretna Chase Hotel.
As a modern day venue, many couples have married in this unusual building.
