The Famous Blacksmiths Shop in Gretna Green has been a hotspot for runaway love since the 1700s. It’s now considered the UK’s wedding capital and arguably the most famous Scottish wedding venue in the world. Here you can follow in the footsteps of endless couples who for over 270 years have been drawn to the blacksmith’s anvil, to forge bonds of love through marriage. From weddings to vow renewals, anvil blessings to handfasting ceremonies, romantic sparks still fly each day in this truly enchanting building.
The Famous Blacksmiths Shop is situated at the heart of Gretna Green village and its three venues are suitable for wedding parties of up to either 20 or 50 guests.
Gretna Hall Historic Marriage House and Hotel
An early 18th -century manor house, this elegant country home draws you in with its sweeping entranceway, period features and open fires. The ‘grand old lady’ of Gretna Green also has its own remarkable history of runaway weddings, having welcomed wealthier eloping sweethearts for more than 200 years. Recently refurbished and sat in 10 acres of gardens with ornamental ponds, gazebos and a ‘Kissing Gate’, it’s a classy location for weddings, receptions and the photographs that will make your memories last a lifetime.
The Gretna Hall Marriage House and Hotel is situated close to the heart of Gretna Green village and its three venues are suitable for wedding parties of between 8 and 80 guests.

If you’re looking for a contemporary backdrop to your big day, Smiths Hotel at Gretna Green is our smart, even swanky, but down-to-earth hotel, and the definition of classy comfort. Tastefully designed and well laid out, it offers flexible rooms for small-scale weddings and larger events alike, as well as benefits like access to private bars and outdoor patio spaces. It’s the place where you can experience an intimate penthouse wedding, or invite scores of guests to a super-sized celebration.
Smiths at Gretna Green Hotel is just over the road from the Famous Blacksmiths Shop and its venues are suitable for wedding parties of up to 6, 20 or 150 guests.
Choose the Best Reception Venue for You
For a post-ceremony party you can choose between the cool ambience of Smiths Hotel or the historic appeal of Gretna Hall Hotel. Smiths can cater for wedding receptions of between 15 to 180 guests in its flexible function rooms, but it also welcomes smaller wedding parties, with meals available in one of its private dining areas, which can hold up to 18 people. Alternatively, Gretna Hall Hotel caters for couples eloping on their own, right up to 80 wedding guests in its function rooms. The jewel-in-the-crown here is the Ramsey Macintosh Room, with its vast arched windows and old-world charm, which can seat up to 24 people.
